A fault tolerant protection concept based upon energy limiting. Useful for creating electrical circuits in hazardous (classified) locations where there is risk of sparks and excessive surface temperatures causing ignition of coincident flammable atmospheres. Typically used for low voltage, low current, instrumentation and process control loops.
