With virtually world-wide coverage the EX-Handy 04 can be used just about anywhere a signal can be found including hazardous classified locations wherever the intrinsic safety certification is recognised. It automatically chooses the optimum GSM network on all continents to provide permanent telephonic availability and data communications. Fast data transmission is possible via HSCSD (up to 43.2 kbits/s in receiving direction) and GPRS (up to 40.2 kbits/s receiving).

GPRS and the integrated WAP browser provide fast access to mobile internet services practically everywhere. An IR interface enables synchronization with suitably certified PDA and notebook devices in hazardous areas, plus there's Bluetooth™ for working in non-classified locations.
