Comfortable, noise-insulating headset with outstanding features such as a pleasant wearing comfort thanks to the soft ear pads, first-class audio components, approx. 27 dB sound attenuation and a microphone with excellent noise cancellation. The robust design is also suitable for difficult environments and the textile headband allows helmets and bump caps to be worn. This device is an ideal addition to our mobile devices IS440.1, IS540.1, IS940.1, and IS945.1
What are the benefits of the neckband design for industrial use?
The IS-HDHS1B.1 is an Ex-approved accessory that forms part of an intrinsically safe neckband headset system when used with the matching PTT button and certified i.safe MOBILE devices. It is designed for workers who either do not wear a helmet or prefer a communication system that does not rely on helmet slots or attachments.
The textile neckband design keeps the headset independent of helmet slots or adapters, making it ideal for workers using bump caps or moving between tasks with and without head protection. The neckband distributes weight evenly and maintains a secure fit without headgear, making it reliable for manufacturing floors, inspections, and confined spaces.
Fully enclosed ear cups provide 27 dBA of passive noise reduction, helping reduce fatigue during long shifts. The Velcro adjustment strap—set only outside hazardous areas per the manual—allows fine-tuning for comfort. The result is an intrinsically safe neckband headset that stays comfortable and stable during extended wear.
Is the IS-HDHS1B.1 certified for hazardous-area use?
Yes. When paired with the appropriate IS-PTTBxA.1 push-to-talk button and a certified i.safe MOBILE device, the IS-HDHS1B.1 becomes part of a NEC, ATEX/IECEx-approved communication system for Class I Division 1, Zone 1/21, and Zone 2/22 locations.
The headset is listed as an approved accessory on the host device’s certificate, ensuring the entire communication chain meets safety requirements for explosive gas or dust environments. Exloc Instruments can assist in verifying full system compliance.
What communication systems can the headset integrate with?
The headset connects via a Nexus plug to either the IS-PTTB1A.1 (16-pin ISM interface) or IS-PTTB2A.1 (8-pin interface) push-to-talk button. From there, the PTT connects directly to approved i.safe MOBILE devices including the IS540.1, IS440.1, IS940.1, and IS945.1.
This setup supports group calls, radio-style PTT communication, and VoIP (depending on the host device), while maintaining full hazardous-area compliance.
How does the headset perform in high-noise areas?
Sealed over-ear headphone shells deliver 27 dBA of passive noise attenuation, making the headset well-suited for loud industrial environments. The bi-directional electret microphone uses noise-cancellation technology to keep transmitted voice clear and intelligible.
A dynamic loudspeaker provides natural, distortion-free audio, helping prevent miscommunication in demanding work conditions.
What maintenance or care does the headset require?
The headset should be cleaned with a slightly damp antistatic cloth after use. The Velcro neckband adjustment must only be set outside hazardous areas. The Nexus plug may be connected or disconnected in hazardous zones, while the ISM connector on the PTT must only be mated in non-hazardous areas.
With proper care, the IS-HDHS1B.1 delivers long-term durability expected from an intrinsically safe communication headset.
